# Slack signals into ClickUp

## Work arising in a channel does not stay in the channel

A busy channel produces work every day that is never recorded: a report, request or incident mentioned between the lines. This workflow listens only to signals agreed beforehand and records them as ClickUp tasks, with a link back to the message.

## From signal to proposal

You agree which channel is included and what counts as a signal: an emoji on a message, a fixed keyword or a message in a dedicated reporting channel. Only those agreed signals enter the workflow; it does not scan an entire channel for suspicions.

Each signal creates a ClickUp task with a short message summary, reporter, time and link back to the Slack message. This lets anyone in the task reread exactly what was said. Each created task is reported back in the thread, so the channel sees the signal was picked up.

## Step by step

1. AgreementWhich channel is included, and what counts as a signal: an emoji, a keyword or a reporting channel?
2. SignalOnly agreed signals come in. The rest of the conversation is not read based on suspicion.
3. SummarizeA short summary of the message and surrounding thread, with the reporter and time included.
4. RecordA ClickUp task is created in the agreed list, with a link back to the message.
5. FeedbackA reference to the created task appears in the thread, showing the channel it has been picked up.

## Where it stops

The workflow reads no private messages or undesignated channels. It does not respond substantively in Slack: the feedback references the task, rather than answering the report. It neither closes nor changes existing tasks and deletes no messages. It does not assign an owner based on a hunch: without a clear owner, the task goes to the team's queue. And a signal given twice creates no second task.

## What we can demonstrate

Slack and [ClickUp](<https://gen8.app/en/integraties/clickup/>) each have their own integration in the platform. Reading channel signals as input is configured [through an external MCP server](<https://gen8.app/en/integraties/mcp-api-maatwerk/>) in this setup, so this is a configuration choice per environment rather than a proven standard route.

## Frequently asked questions

Does the workflow read the entire channel?

No. Only agreed signals: an emoji, a keyword or a channel dedicated to reports.

Why is there no approval for each task?

Because the signal itself is the decision: someone deliberately adds an emoji or uses the reporting channel. Every created task is logged.

What happens with a duplicate signal?

No second task is created. The workflow checks whether the same message was already recorded.

Can this work from another chat channel too?

The structure is the same, but the route to the chat system differs. Check the integrations for your system's route.

## Bring one process.

Together we assess whether this workflow fits your situation, the management its route requires and where people must keep making decisions.
